Style It: Molded & Melded Tee

Hi all!

Happy Wednesday to you!  Half-way through the week...yay!

Time for another round of "Style It"...where I pull an item out of my closet I haven't worn for a while and bring it back to life with a whole new look!  I decided to bring out my green Molded & Melded Tee I got as a gift from my bestie a few years back.

I love the color and the neckline...but it's one of those tops I always wear with a cardigan with to keep covered up...the neckline dips a bit too low on me on the sides.  I happened to pick up the perfect cardigan to go with it a few months back (on sale, even better!) and came up with this look:

Dressy OOTD: Teal and Mustard Yellow and searching for a wedding guest look!

Happy Monday!

Hope you all had a great weekend!  It's back to a 5-day week after having two 4-days weeks in a row...bracing myself!  At least the snow on the ground melted overnight due to a rain storm that came through.  Rain=warmer temperatures too which I definitely won't complain about!  It's short lived though...we'll be back in the 20's in a few days it looks like.  All well.  It'll be nice while it lasts!

A few Sundays ago I pulled out my Corded Dots skirt from last winter and decided to try pairing it with a bolder version of a color I had paired with it before.  Last year I remember wearing a seafoam green cardi with it...this time I went for teal.  Same basic color family, just brighter and bolder.

Original Polyvore Set for this look can be found HERE

Sainte Chapelle Earrings-Anthropologie
Pop Stone Ring-Banana Republic

I liked how it turned out with the bolder color up top!  Of course, I haven't met a bold color I don't like, so I may be bias.  =)

So I am on the hunt...I'm in need of a wedding guest outfit!  My little brother is getting married in about a month and a half and I need a dress!  Since I'm a member of the groom's family I'm trying to stick to the wedding colors so we all look somewhat cohesive in pictures.  I don't need to be totally literal and only wear those two colors, but I try to find something that at least has a little of them in it.  The colors they chose are cobalt blue and pale yellow.  I'm afraid with my winter white pale skin, pale yellow will wash me out completely so I've been focusing on looking for something more on the cobalt blue side.

The wedding is in March in Phoenix, Arizona so the weather should be pretty decent.  My brother-in-law got married in March in Arizona a few years back and I wore a dress, cardigan, bare legs and heels and was perfectly comfortable.  So I'm looking for something similar.  When looking for a dress for weddings I always like to get something I'll be able to easily include into my regular wardrobe and wear again.  There's nothing worse than finding a great dress that you wear once, and then hang it up for good.  My best friend found the cutest dress on sale (it's only $60 down from $198 and I found a promo code for free shipping!!!) at Boden a while back and after hearing she liked it, I decided to go ahead and order the colorway that was more appropriate for the color scheme I'm looking for.

So I know the "yellow" part of the flowers on this dress are more orange looking than yellow, but that's ok.  It's the cobalt blue in the center of the flowers that I'm focusing on.  I'm thinking I can get away with this if I pair it with a cute pair of cobalt blue heels and fun jewelry.  Hopefully the dress fits well or it's back to the drawing board!

Here's a few shoe possibilities I've found so far:

Any favorites?  Do you own any of these?  Which would you go with?

Or have you seen another cute pair of cobalt blue heels somewhere I must know about?  Do tell!!!

Have a great day!

A red and aqua OOTD, a few recent purchases and some Anthro loves

Happy Thursday!

The weekend is almost here...hanging in there?  It's been a good week...pretty laid back for the most part.  We got some snow overnight and should be getting some more tomorrow...it's another cold one today!

I happen to love the color combination of red and aqua...when I think of the two colors together I immediately think summer, but why can't it be for winter too?

Original Polyvore set for this look can be found HERE

Miz Mooz "Kelsey" Boots-Piperlime
Mystic Tieback Bib Necklace-Anthropologie
Strung Hoop Earrings-Anthropologie
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Bracelet (hiding under cardigan)-Twisted Silver
Pop Stone Ring-Banana Republic

This is a very matchy-match look, sticking mainly to the red and aqua motif, but sometimes I'm just in the mood to match perfectly.  I'll make sure to wear the whole rainbow in an outfit soon to make up for it. =)

So I thought I'd share a few of my recent purchases with you...I've scored some amazing deals as of late!  Last weekend I went into Gap and found the BEST deals ever!  They were having 40% off all their sale items.  I normally don't have much luck with their sale section...usually it's totally picked over and things are there for a reason but this time was different!

I scored both of these for just under $25!  They were each about $12 on sale...I just couldn't pass that up!  The tee will be great in the summer and can easily be layered right now with a cardigan and the jeans...well, I love a cute pair of colored jeans!  These are a bit neon looking (hence the name) and fall somewhere in-between pink and purple (even though they look more purple online).  Major score!   I actually went back a few days later because I realized I had forgotten to check out their work out pants that were on promo and found a cute umbrella for just $7 too (perfect for London)!  I ended up really liking the pair of workout pants I tried on and brought them home with me to replace the pair I've been wearing since college (they are very faded and sad looking)...if you're looking for a new pair check these out:

They were on promo for $35 in-store.  I have a pair of these in the capri version and have really loved them. Gap has a great workout line, in my opinion!

One other item I picked up on sale a few weeks ago was this bag:

I was able to score this for more than 50% off the retail price at Coach Factory.  I'd been on the lookout for a decent sized, neutral colored purse that had both a shoulder strap and a cross-body option since we'll be walking around a ton when we head to London and Paris. I don't own a single purse that has the cross-body option (except a very small purse I take when I'm without kids once in a while) so this was a great find.  It's a bag I'll use a ton in the future too...the color is neutral but the metallic is gorgeous and gives it a little something extra special. =

Have you found any great deals lately?  Do tell!  I love hearing what others are finding!  I have my eye on a few things at Anthropologie right now...I was lucky enough to win Moody Girl in Style's latest giveaway (thanks so much "Moody Girl"!!!) so now I have an Anthropologie gift card burning a hole in my pocket. Never a bad thing!  What have you picked up there lately that you'd recommend?

Here's a few things I'm loving from there right now:

So may cute things...it's hard to choose!  I'm realizing I've definitely got a thing for blues and pinks at the moment...did you notice? =)

Alrighty, off to start my day!  Hope you have a great one!

Brightening up Winter

Winter tends to bring out the darker colors of my wardrobe more.  When I think winter I think maroons, grays, deep purples, etc.  Every once in a while though, I like to pretend spring has already started and bring out the brights...I mean, if I wear it, it will come, right?

Do you sport bright colors in the winter?  Or do you stick mainly to the darker hues?

Speaking of winter, it was 5 degrees when I put my kids on the bus this morning.  With the wind chill the temperature read -9 degrees.  Sick.  I'm half-tempted to not leave my house all day...it's SOOOO cold!  However, #3 looks forward to his free-play time at the trampoline gym every Tuesday morning so we'll be braving the cold in the name of fun.  Wish me luck. =)

Have a good day!

Dress Love

I love Sundays.  It's the day I get to push everything else aside and focus on family, church and rest.  Win-Win!  And the added bonus?  Getting all dressed up!  During the week I'm very much in mom-mode when it comes to getting dressed.  While I try to still look nice in my more casual outfits, Sunday gives me the opportunity to actually pull out a skirt or dress and some cute colored tights and high heels.  I don't work outside the home so unless I'm attending some special event, Sunday is all I get to bust out the nicer section of my wardrobe and style it in a dressy manner.  Last Sunday I wore a dress I stalked until it hit sale at Anthro...I held strong and was even able to get it for an additional 25% off the sale price!  Sale on sale...score!

It was well worth the wait...I love this dress. =)

Do you work outside the home?  Or are you a homemaker like me?  How often do you get "dressed up"?  Do you wish you had more opportunities to get dressed up?  I do!!! =)

I'm headed to my basement to get my run on...got a hot date with my treadmill. =)

Have a great day!

Style It: Switching Lanes Cardigan

Happy Friday!

I'm a little late posting this morning because my kiddos have the day off and I slept in till 9am.  It was heavenly.  No rest for the weary though...we're headed to go get our passports today.  I'm really hoping we have all the right documents and it doesn't take all day!  I've heard horror stories so crossing my fingers it all works out.

So welcome to my new series: "Style It"!  I'm pretty creative when it comes to giving things titles huh? =)  This will be the series where I bring an item out of my closet that I haven't worn in a while and style it in a new way!  I think most people have items just hanging out in their closets that they don't know what to do with any more, or they're bored of how they've already worn it...me too!  So this series is to encourage us all to bring those items out and try again!

This week I found this lovely cardigan in my closet, nicely folded just waiting to be used...it's the Switching Lanes Cardigan from Anthropologie a few years back:

I scored this cardigan for $19.99 on sale a few winters ago and have worn it probably less than 5 times.  I really love the yellow stripes and the shape of the collar....that's what originally drew me to it in the first place.  I've just found it harder to style than I expected though.  But NOT impossible!

So here we are, a few years later, and I am experimenting with a few more color combinations than I used to.  I went digging around in my colored jeans pile and came up with a fun look using a pair of dark turquoise skinnies:

Switching Lanes Cardigan-Anthropologie
AG Color Ankle Denim-Anthropologie

Mission completed!  I really liked this new color combination and all the layering was perfect on a cold day.

I challenge you to pull something out of your closet you haven't lately and remix it!  You never know...you might come up with your new favorite look! =)

A Simple Equation

It's a simple equation I use CONSTANTLY:

Cardigan+Top+Jeans+Boots+Statement Necklace=My everyday look

Original Polyvore set for this look can be found HERE

Parted Rays Blouse-Anthropologie
Set the Course Cardigan-Anthropologie
Always Skinny Jeans-Gap
Loft Boots
Colorblocked Strands Necklace-Anthropologie
Crystal Bracelet-J Crew
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Tribute Bracelet-Stella & Dot
Bardot Earrings-Stella & Dot
Ring-Old

This equation really works!  I use it probably 75% of the time in the colder months and it makes getting ready in the morning so much easier.

This week I've decided to choose another item I haven't worn in a long time to try to remix into another look.  You may remember I started this little feature last week when I remixed the Linear Landscape Maxi (see THIS post to refresh your memory).  The item I decided to pull out of my closet this week to remix is the Switching Lanes Cardigan:

I've almost gotten rid of this cardigan on a few occasions because I hadn't worn it a ton, but now I'm so glad I hung onto it...it was a fun item to remix!

Check back tomorrow to see how I remixed this cardigan into a totally new look I'd never thought of before!

Have a great day!

Scarf weather and my Anthro Stripewise Chemise review

Happy Tuesday!

After a few days of warmer temps we're back to bitter cold winter weather.  I did it again...I accidentally left my house yesterday without a coat.  Big mistake.  I didn't get far though...my son ended up falling asleep in the backseat 5 minutes in.  The boy was more tired than I realized!  I made one quick stop at the gas station (and FROZE as I filled up the car) and then decided to head back home.  That was the quickest outing ever!    I think I just need to keep a coat in the car at all times...this CA girl is having a hard time remembering she lives in Ohio sometimes!

One thing I have been remembering to wear a lot of lately are scarves! They are so warm and cozy and can add a pop of color to an outfit in no time!

Original polyvore set for this look can be found HERE

Factory Camp Shirt-J Crew Factory
AG Stevie Ankle Color-Anthropologie
Cardigan-Loft (Old)
Lulu Cable Knit Infinity Scarf-Nordstrom (BP)
Miz Mooz "Kelsey" Boots-Piperlime
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Tribute Bracelet-Stella & Dot

Flower Bud Ring-J Crew

I'm still on the lookout for a more sturdy denim shirt.  The one I wore above is a thinner material, a more appropriate weight for spring probably, but I made it work.  I've tried some heavier denim shirts on at J Crew at Madewell recently and they have all either been too short, too baggy, or both.  I'm looking for something not too short and fitted!  If you have any suggestions, let me know!

So on my last trip to Anthropologie I was hoping to try on the Stripewise Chemise, but was disappointed when I found out my local store hadn't received it yet.  I'd been eyeing it online from the moment it appeared and was anxious to see it in real life.  Since they didn't have it, I did the next best thing...I ordered it.  It finally arrived last week and I LOVE it!!  It's really cute and comfortable and will be a perfect item to bring with me on our trip to England in March!  Yes, I'm already thinking about my packing list! =)

(sorry, bad picture quality...it was raining out and there wasn't any good natural light when I took this picture)

I ordered the dress in an X-Small and the fit was great.  The mid-section is ruched and can be moved around to your liking.  It's not too bulky as the fabric isn't too  thick so it falls pretty good.  Although the fabric is on the thinner side, it's not see-through by any means.  I'll still wear a slip with it anyways, out of habit.  I read some reviews that said the dress was way too long on some, but it fell perfectly for me (I'm 5'6").  I could wear flats without it brushing the ground and wedges (as pictured above) without it looking too high water.  All in all I give it a thumbs up and I'm excited to add it to my closet.

Have you tried on the Stripewise Chemise yet?  What do you think?

Alrighty...off to get some things done around the house!  Hope you have a great day!

Golden Globes Fashion re-cap

Happy Monday!

I was suppose to be sitting in the dentist's office this morning getting a cavity filled but the office called me bright and early to cancel my appointment...some scheduling mis-hap apparently.  So here I am all dressed up and no where to go!  I mean, I didn't exactly get ALL dressed up for the dentist's office or anything, but I'm out of my gym clothes so that's a step up!

So did you watch the Golden Globes last night?  I watched all the red carpet shows but missed most of the actual show itself.  My DVR failed me.  Sad.  At least it got the important part! =)  I have to say overall the fashion was just ok.  A few hits and a TON of misses.  A few of my girlfriends and I were chatting on a Facebook thread together as we watched and it was so fun to banter back and forth about what we all thought about everyone's looks...I'm thinking an actual viewing party altogether for the Oscars next month is in order!  The theme for last night was plunging necklines, high slits and awkward tops.  There were still some great looks regardless.

Here's a few of my favorite looks of the night:

Isla Fischer
My favorite of the night...I just love the color and the design...gorgeous!!!

Jessica Alba
So pretty and age appropriate.  Love this color!!

Megan Fox
GORGEOUS!  Let's not even talk about the fact that she just had a baby a few months ago.

Julianne Hough
I wish that this dress wasn't so long, but other than than I loved it.  I also really loved her hair...super fun!

Jennifer Garner
Just beautiful.  The color is so pretty on her and I love the subtle texture of the dress.  Her and her hubby are darling together.  I wish he had shaved though.

I won't post my worst dressed pictures because they're just bad, but worst dressed for me goes to Sienna Miller (arts and crafts project gone wrong), Kaley Cuoco (way too heavy on the dark lipstick), Halle Berry (just a train wreck all over), Lena Dunham (no words for this) and Jessica Chastain (major sagging going on up top).  Better luck next time ladies!!!

So what did you think?  Who was your favorite?  Whose look did you look at and think "What?"

Chime in!

Reader Question: What should I wear on my Disney Vacation???

TGIF!!!

It's going to be a rainy weekend here in the mid-west!  All of a sudden our winter wonderland has disappeared and the rain has swooped in, taking over the place.  I'm actually thrilled to see the grass again.  Two to three weeks of snow on the ground was good enough for me.  If we don't see snow again until next winter that would be fine with me!  My kids wouldn't mind one more big storm in the next few months, however.  They love it!

So today I thought I'd share a question I received from a blog reader this week.  Mindie emailed me asking for ideas for a packing list for her 9-day Disney World Vacation she's going on with her family in just a few weeks. The weather will be in the 70's (gotta love the winter weather in Florida!!!) and she plans to wear flats or sandals daily on her feet.  She told me she has a lot of the same tops I have, so using what I have in my closet, along with some newer Anthropologie items (she has an Anthro gift card burning a hole in her pocket she'd love to use!!!) I tried to put together a list that was versatile, colorful (I like to be colorful so my kids can always find me in a crowd) and comfortable. The key to packing for a Disney vacation really is comfort, comfort, comfort!  Also, I never pack any shirts that are made out of a nicer fabric (silk, etc) when I go to Disney.  It's inevitable that the second you do, you'll get thrown up on or something will be spilled on you.  Been there, done that, ,and won't do it again!!!   Also, I almost always wear a top that a cardigan can easily be layered over to make sure I'm warm when night time hits and the temperature goes down.

So here's the packing list I came up with:

This of course doesn't include any accessories, but when I do Disney, I try to wear jewelry that won't get in the way too much.  Wear shorter necklaces especially.  The longer the necklaces are, the better chance they have to get caught in something and snap.  You don't want to come home with broken pieces in your bag!

Hopefully this list will at least be a good jumping off point for Mindie and she can come up with the perfect packing list for her.  Hope you have a great trip! =)

Are you taking any vacations soon??  I know the winter months are sometimes the most popular to get up and take off for some place a little warmer!  We are actually looking forward to our upcoming vacation in March...we are taking our boys with us to England for 10 days to see my husband's brother and his family for Spring Break!  We are SOOO excited!  My bro-in-law and sis-in-law were nice enough to volunteer to watch the boys overnight for us while just Josh and I go to Paris for two days alone...AHHH!  Yes, I'm going to Paris.  I seriously die!   London was exciting enough but then when Paris got thrown in there too...ya, there are no words.  Now that's going to be a fun packing list to create...but challenging!  I've never traveled internationally so this will be interesting.

Have you been to England?  Paris?  I'd love to hear anything you want to share about either!  Good places to eat, great places to visit, great boutiques to shop at...give it to me! =)

Well, I'm off to start my day...as I've been typing the rain has stopped so perhaps we'll get a little break for a while.  Crossing my fingers!

Hope you have a great weekend!

Challenge: Remixing the Linear Landscape Maxi

Hi all!

Yesterday I posted a picture of a dress that I found hanging in my closet, a little lonely and unloved so far this season:

Exhibit A: Linear Landscape Maxi

Since buying this dress I have worn it quite a few times, mostly in the spring or summer months.  It may be in the dead of winter here in the mid-west right now, but I felt like busting it out and bringing new life to it last week.  I have often been perplexed with how to accessorize this dress with a necklace because of the V-neck.  Call me crazy, but V-necks just stump me.  I struggle with finding the right necklace to wear with them every time!   This time I decided to do away with a necklace altogether and create a new look that I hadn't tried before:

OOTD 1-4-12

And here's how it turned out in real life:

Original polyvore set for this look can be found HERE

Cropped Denim Jacket-J Crew Factory
Scarf-birthday gift from my sis-in-law, Erin, a few years ago
Carapace Wedges-Anthropologie
Strung Hoop Earrings-Anthropologie

Sparkle Flower Ring-Banana Republic

Instead of trying to come up with a necklace to flatter the V-neck, I did away with it completely and went with a scarf!  I wore it just like this all day long and it worked out perfect.  I was excited to find a way to use what I already had in my closet to create this look...it was all just sitting there waiting to be remixed! =)

So did you take my challenge?  Did you find something in your closet to remix and create a new look with?  If so, I'd love to hear all about it!  And see pictures too, if you have them!  Leave me a comment telling me what you remixed and a link to a picture if you took one so we can all see!  Perhaps I'll make this a regular post...remixing specific items in my closet.  I definitely plan to remix a lot this year.  I know I have tons of outfit possibilities in my closet...now it's time to create them!

Have a great day!

A little remixing going on...

Happy Wednesday all!

We're half-way through the week...how's it going for ya?  I'm good!  I've been keeping busy with errands, working out, cleaning house, play dates, etc.  Although being busy is sometimes exhausting, I know I'm happier when I've got stuff going on.  Don't get me wrong, I surely enjoy a day off to lounge in my pj's here and there too! =)

So today I'm taking you back...all the way back to last year (a whole 9 days ago) with these looks.  I still have a few outfits I haven't posted yet from over the holidays so I'm trying to catch up.  I did a lot of remixing in these looks and used a ton of items I've had in my closet for quite some time.  There were a few newer items thrown in there as well for good measure. =)

I've had this top for well over a year..maybe two?  Can't remember now.  I love all the colors in it...it is perfect for mixing and matching!  I've worn it with jeans, skirts, heels and boots...it's so versatile! The jeans have also been in my closet for multiple years now and they are my favorite affordable premium jean.  I'd love to grab a second pair at some point!  The boots have been work horses for me since I bought them in the fall 2011 and continue to get used constantly this winter!

I picked up this top a few years back and love how comfortable it is.  The jeggings were a purchase from last winter and they've become my lazy-day go-to...they are so comfy!  The rain boots have also gotten quite a work out since living in the mid-west...when I bought them last winter I worried we'd move somewhere this past summer where I wouldn't get much use out of them, but that's not been the case at all!

If you've followed my blog for a while I'm sure you've seen many of these items before but the fun of having things you love in your closet is remixing them over and over again to create new looks!

Do you try to remix items in your closet a lot or do you find yourself wearing things the same way over and over again?  I challenge you to choose an item you haven't worn in a while and remix it to create a whole new look.  I'm gonna play along too!  I found this dress hanging in my closet the other day and realized it hadn't seen the light of day for a while:

I happen to really love this dress but the v-neck has always baffled me a little.  For some reason v-necks just aren't my thing and because of that I feel like I've not worn this as much as I could have.  So I came up with a new look for it to solve the problem and I loved it!  Come back tomorrow to see how I styled it!

I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy today for WIWW...head on over if you're looking for more style inspiration!

Thanks for stopping by!  Hope you have a great day!!
