Bringing back Wide-Leg Jeans

Back in the day before there were such things as skinny jeans, I wore wide-leg/flared jeans a lot.  I decided to go all retro on myself a few weeks ago and pull them back out.  Honestly, I forgot how much I liked them!

Original Polyvore set for this look can be found HERE

It was kind of fun to wear a different shape than I usually do.  Although I could never truly give up all my skinny leg jeans, trying something else out once in a while is kind of refreshing.  It's not like the wide-leg/flared jean trend ever really went away...they've just kind of taken aback seat to the skinny jean the past few years.  I have a white pair of wide-leg jeans sitting in my closet waiting to be worn as we speak so I'm planning to get those out soon as well.

Do you still wear wide-leg/flare jeans?  Or have you converted to skinny jeans for the most part like me?

Back from sunny CA and some over the weekend sale finds!

What a weekend...that was a quick trip!  We got back last night from CA where my little brother got married this past weekend.  It was so much fun to go out and be there for the big event and to see friends and family.  Wish we could have stayed longer!  But alas, the three days of school left were calling so back to Ohio we came.  The wedding and reception were beautiful and everything went well.  Here's a picture of our family we took at the reception:

I forgot to take a picture of my whole outfit (with shoes) so this is the best I've got.  I LOVE this dress!  It worked out perfectly.  I usually don't like to make my boys match each other dead-on like this but this was the best I could do with the color combination I was given to work with.  It's hard to find these colors for boys!  I thought they looked pretty cute though, if I don't say so myself. =)  And hubby cleans up pretty well too...we found that J Crew Factory blazer he's wearing last month for just $80!  I usually pay twice that for his blazers at Banana Republic (on sale!) so this was a total score.

So the fact that I was traveling yesterday was probably a good thing for my wallet...holy sales, everywhere!  I did manage to pick up a few things on sale though...I had a few hours to kill at the airport before boarding the first plane and then on our layover, after all.  All I needed was my trusty iPhone and sales were at my fingertips!

I grabbed these while waiting to board the plane in Sacramento:

I had them in my online shopping cart at Nordstrom and had planned on purchasing them there since they're part of their Half-Yearly sale right now but then my best friend emailed me and told me to check them out over at Francesca's Collections online.  Sure enough they were on sale for an even lower price over there!  I can't vouch for these completely as I haven't yet tried them on yet, but for just $44.50 I'm excited to give them a try!  I went and looked this morning and it looks like these are still half-off right now at Francesca's so grab them while you can!  I think all the shoes may have been half-off...take a looksie!

While sitting in Denver on my layover I managed to find one more item I couldn't pass up:

Again, I have my bestie to blame thank for this one...I got to see her over the weekend while we were in CA and she showed up wearing this cute dress styled perfectly.  I'll recreate the look for you just so you can see how cute it can look:

Old Navy Maxi Tee Dress/ Highlighted Frequencies Cardigan/ Steve Madden "Buddies" Sandals/ Color Goes On Necklace

Old Navy Maxi Tee Dress/ Highlighted Frequencies Cardigan/ Steve Madden "Buddies" Sandals/ Color Goes On Necklace by jennifoundinmycloset featuring steve madden

She looked adorbs!  She's pretty tall so she ordered the dress from the "tall" section.  I'm 5'6" and noticed in the online reviews that some people said they were around my height and felt the dress was a little short on them so I went ahead and ordered both the tall and regular length to see which fits best.  We'll see how it goes.  But here's the kicker...with the Memorial Day sale Old Navy was having, I picked up the green motif of this dress for just $15 and the red for just $23!  Crazy inexpensive!  I'm really hoping they work for me because they would be great for summer.

I also ended up picking up the sandals you see above in the Polyvore set at the Nordstrom half-yearly sale:

Steve Madden "Buddies" Sandal

These cute sandals are UBER versatile and were a great price.  Again, I ordered these without trying them on, so I'm hoping they fit ok.  The reviews all said the ankle straps were very small which is perfect for me usually so I'm crossing my fingers.

So did you score any great deals over the weekend?  Share!!!

Hope you had a great Memorial day!  I for one am so grateful for those who sacrifice and have given their time, talents, and for some, even their lives to defend and protect the freedoms we enjoy in this country.  Being a military family has changed my outlook on days like Memorial day. It's a whole new ballgame when your husband wears the uniform himself.  Thankfully he's never had to deploy but I know plenty who have and it's not easy.  May we all remember!

My 2013 Summer Essentials

Hi all!

Hope your week is going well!  We're in our last two weeks of school now (which always entails so much), swim team started earlier this week, and we're heading out of town this weekend to attend my brother's wedding in California so we're a little crazy around here!  My friend was saying a few days ago that she felt May was a crazier month than even December, and I have to say, I'm starting to agree!  Busy is good though...but I'm so happy summer vacation starts next week!

With the warmer temps comes the need to break out the summer essentials.  I've had a few reader requests for a list of my 2013 summer essentials, so I went ahead and put together a list.  Of course there are many more items that could have been included, but I figured I'd keep it to my Top 10 so it didn't get out of hand. =)

2013 Summer Essentials

2013 Summer Essentials by jennifoundinmycloset featuring super skinny jeans

1. A pop of neon jewelry: I love a statement necklace and this one is perfection with it's great color combination and touch of neon.  Perfectly on trend and wearable!

2. Easy Breezy T's: Living in the mid-west has re-introduced me to humidity...lots of t-shirts are in my regular summer rotation.  Both patterned and solid colored shirts are a must!

3. Short Sleeve Maxi Dresses: I'm all about a great maxi dress but since I don't wear things that are sleeveless, I'm always on the lookout for a great short-sleeved dress.  Short-sleeves means I don't have to throw on a cardi!  I love this one with it's bold chevron stripes and plan to wear it all the time!

4. Metallic Flat Sandals: I live in sandals all summer long and metallic is so on trend and goes with everything.   I own both of these great pairs...trust me when I say they'll both get a workout!

5. Bright/Printed Swimwear: Mixing and matching solid and printed swimwear is where it's at!  I love this cute top and bottom together and plan to rock it all summer long!

6. Maxi Skirts: Skirts are so easy and fun and a Maxi skirt is even better because they're long so you don't have to worry about them flying up in the air and exposing yourself if the wind comes through!  I really love this bright turquoise color and the pleats were what sold me on it.  On-trend and super cute--check, check!

7. Tunics: I'm OBSESSED with tunics this season and I'm loving that so many stores are carrying them.  I think they are universally flattering (even petite girls can rock them with the appropriate length cropped ankle denim).  This one can be dressed up or down and I've already found many ways to style it.  Love!

8. Wedge Sandals: Love me a great pair of wedge sandals!   As much as I love a metallic flat, I could never give up my beloved wedge sandals.  Truth be told, I'd love to have a wedge sandal in every color under the sun!  They are so versatile and dress up any summer look.  The wedge gives more stability than a proper heel which is also great.

9. Cropped Denim: Even though shorts and skirts can keep you a little cooler during the summer months, I still always find the need to have cropped denim on hand.  You can roll them to create a more styled look, and mix and match them with everything in your closet!  I love them in fun, bright colors or prints for summer especially, but a great blue denim color is a classic.  Gap and Anthropologie carry some of my favorite cropped denim.

10. Lightweight Cardigans: Even though you may not wear cardigans in the summer regularly, having one on hand for breezy nights isn't a bad idea.  Lightweight cardigans are great for late night strolls or  movie theaters as well.  This cute floral printed cardi had me at hello...so fun!

So there you have it...my summer essentials. What do you think?  What are your summer essentials this year?

Playing with color (OOTD) and some very cute shoes!!!

There are certain color combinations I wear over and over and over.  I'm sure if you're a regular reader of my blog you could name a few of them.  Lately some of my favorites have been mint and red, turquoise and yellow and purple and orange.  I like to change it up every now and again and try new color combos that are a little outside my normal box and on Mother's Day a few weeks ago I did just that:

I have to say I'm really loving these Seychelles sandals.  I bought them to wear at my brother's wedding this coming weekend but wanted to wear them a few times first to break them in a bit.  I highly recommend them!  The only thing I found weird about them was the sizing.  I am a size 8 1/2 in every single pair of Seychelles shoes I own and the 8 1/2 in this style was way too big.  I took these in a size 8, so if you take the plunge, make sure to size down a 1/2 size.

Speaking of Seychelles sandals, I'm totally obsessed with these right now:

If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen these as one of my "Photo A Day" pictures this week already. The prompt for the photo was "Want"...as in I want these cute shoes in my closet STAT! =)  They come in tons of different colors but I'm loving this fresh mint color so much.  Seychelles shoes are my absolute favorites so I know I'd love them!

Hope you have a great day!

Anthropologie Fitting Room Reviews-Early May 2013

I was recently able to visit a few Anthropologie stores and spent some time in the fitting rooms trying on some of the latest and greatest!  Here's some reviews!

$98

I tried this cute top on in the red colorway, but liked both.  I think I may actually prefer the black colorway simply because it has more pairing possibilities though.  I tried it on in an X-Small and it fit great.  This is definitely not a fitted top as it has a tie at the drop waist length.  Everything above that dropped waist is a bit billowy by design.  I found the length to be perfect and think it would be great for dressing up or down with jewelry.  Wish listed in the black motif.

$88

I really loved the color of this cute, lightweight cardigan.  I tried it on in an X-Small and it fit well.  It has a great twist detail on the back, giving it a little something extra special.  You could only wear this in the spring/summer/fall months as it definitely won't provide much warmth in winter.  I do worry a bit about the possibility of it snagging easily because it is so thin, so that's something to be careful about.  Wish listed.

$98

I tried this top on in a size 0 and it was an ok fit.  I think the size 2 may have been too tentish so I'd probably stick with this size.  I liked the bright, sunny yellow color and the cute embroidery, but the sleeves were a little odd.  They almost look a little too small for the shirt in my opinion.  I would probably wear a cardi with this top if I got it because of the weird length and wide arm holes.  The little circles across the top of the shirt are actual pieces of fabric cut in circles and are pretty delicate.  It's a bit of an arts and crafts top in that regard.  Overall I wasn't in love with this one and can easily pass for now.

$88

I really wanted to try this top on in the pink motif but they didn't have my size so I went ahead and tried on this one instead.  I tried this on in an X-Small and the fit was great.  The length was perfect and the shirt itself was well made (made of silk).  I didn't mind the print of the one I tried on but really would like to add the pink motif to my closet at some point.  It just speaks to me more.  Wish listed in the Pink motif.

$128

I really love this cute cardigan and think it would be so cute paired with the Bottlegreen dress I am wearing to my brother's wedding.  I tried it on in an X-Small and think I would need to size up to a size Small for a bit of extra length.  It also felt a bit tight through the shoulders so sizing up would help in that regard.  I really love the details and the colors of this cardigan, but not enough to pull the trigger at full price.  I'll be waiting for sale on this one.  Wish listed for sale!

$88
AND
Braided Twill Trousers- Light Grey motif
(Green motif in a review below)
$88

This top comes in this yellow color, cream and black.  I grabbed the yellow but as soon as I put it on I knew it wasn't for me.  The color just doesn't go well with my skin tone and hair color.  It looks pretty yellow in the picture but had some green undertones in real life.  My best friend tried it on and she is also blonde and it looked great one her, so it just depends I guess!  I tried it on in a size 0 and the fit was good.  It's uniquely made with the laser cutting to give it a cool design and texture.  I wouldn't mind trying this on in the cream or black if I got the chance to see if I liked it either of those better.  The yellow is definitely a pass though.

I first saw these pants hanging in the store (never noticed them online) and thought they could be a great "lazy day" alternative to jeans (while actually still looking put together).  I tried them on in a size 0 and they fit really well. They have that flattering skinny leg throughout but they flare out at the bottom ever so slightly, giving them a more relaxed look.  I took the plunge and ended up purchasing the grey motif but then opted to return them for the green motif after seeing those the next day (the first store we went to didn't have the green motif).  I love the army green color and think they'll be a great neutral in my closet.  See the green motif in reviews below.

$58

Here is the Green motif of the Braided Twill Trousers that I ended up bringing home with me also (size 0):

This top has been on my wish list from the second it popped up online.  I love all the different print options!  When I tried it on I found the X-Small to be the best fit...the Small was definitely too big (very billowy).  Just for reference, in these pictures, I am wearing a size Small in the Mint motif and an X-Small in the Grey motif (polka dots).   If you are between sizes I would definitely suggest to size down.  I really love all four of the motifs and would love to have a few in my closet, but for now I decided to bring the Mint motif home with me.  Purchased!  The other three are wish listed.

$68

This top comes in several colors and even some stripes and is so darn cute!  I liked the ones that had the cream lace on the back best because you could wear a white shirt under it and it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb under the lace.  I tried this on in an XS and it was a good fit, but was very long in the back on me.  If you're taller this top will look great on you!  I've seen two of my friends try this on who are both taller and they both looked fab in it.  Regretfully, I think this is a pass for now due to the length.  I may try another motif on at another time to see if they all fall this long.

$88

This sweater was love from the minute I saw it...it just looks like me I think!  I tried it on in an X-Small and that's what I would get.  It has a fun color combo and feels light-weight (but not too light that it's see-through or anything). It's great for spring, cool summer nights and into fall.  I'd even wear it in the winter with something heavier underneath.  I have grand plans for this cute cardi in my wardrobe.  Wish listed!

$48
AND
$98

I tried this top on in an X-Small and it was a perfect fit.  This top comes in tons of colors so choosing only one was the real challenge!  I really liked the relaxed look of this top and think it will be perfect for the summer months in hot, humid Ohio.  I usually don't like V-neck tops on me that much but this one had a little bit of a higher neckline than most V-necks so it worked.   Purchased and wish listed in multiple colors.

Printed pants are something I haven't really explored much of yet (outside of polka dots) so I was excited to try these on.  The print is on a smaller scale and the colors are pretty neutral so it's not too overwhelming.  I tried these on in a 26 and 26 Petite and settled on the petite length (I got lucky as they were an online return...usually the stores don't carry petite lengths).  I really liked the fit and think they'll be pretty easy to mix and match.  They also came in another print (Ivory motif--with an ivory background and pink floral design) that were really cute.  This could be the start of seeing more patterned pants in my closet in the near future! Purchased and wish listing the Ivory motif.

$128

Sorry for the terrible pairing here, but here's the cute Primary cardigan!  I really liked this cardi and think it's a fun, bold cardigan.  I tried it on in an X-Small and the fit was right on.  The colors are very 4th of July without being too in your face about it somehow.  I like the strong navy blue yarn work and think it's a great statement piece.  It was a little on the heavy side for a true summer sweater but not too bad.  Definitely not super light-weight.  Wish listed!

$162

These jeans were a surprise to me...I usually don't like any sort of "boyfriend" looking jean on me because on my chicken legs/ankles they look ridiculous, but these jeans were FAB!  I tried them on in a size 25 and 26 and the size 26 was the best fit.  They are so comfortable and are the perfect shade of lighter blue, which is something I don't have in my closet!   It was hard for me to part with these cute jeans, but I left them behind.  I'm hoping to score them on sale if I can hold out.  Wish listed!

Terra Ikat Blouse
$128

I tried this top on in a size 0 or 2...I can't remember which...so sorry!  Regardless of the size, I think the same problem would be present...the length on the front.  It's clearly very short on my long torso.  This top has a fab print, and great, rich colors, and I really liked it on the hanger, but when I put it on it was all wrong.      The one thing I did like about it besides the print and colors was the fact that the tie waist actually did fall at the right spot on me.  The price point on this top is SUPER high so even if it worked for me I wouldn't pay full price.  I know it's silk but I say this one is way overpriced.  This one is a definite pass for me.

Ruched & Ruled Tee-Green motif
$48

I am loving all the striped shirts out right now and this was no exception.  I tried this on in an X-Small and a Small and the X-Small was the right fit (shown above).  The Small was baggy and unflattering.  After trying this top on once I thought it was just ok, but after trying it on a second time, I decided I actually really liked it.  It came in a few colorways but this one grabbed my attention the most, probably because I lack a lot of green in my closet.  The top itself wasn't too see-through and I loved the cute floral outline on the neckline and pocket.  I'll keep my eye on this one for a sale.  Wish listed.

Patched Rugby Pullover
$78

I tried this top on in an X-Small and the fit was fine.  I initially picked it up because it looks super comfy but in reality it was very lightweight and flimsy with no shape.  It was very underwhelming to say the least.  It felt more like a top I"d wear to bed than  top I'd wear out to run errands.  Needless to say this one was a pass.

Nubuck Gladiator Wedges-Mint motif
$148

These sandals are totally adorable and the perfect shade of mint.  Sadly, as you can see in the picture, they ran really big around my small ankle.  I tried these on in a size 8 (closest size they had to what I asked for...I usually wear an 8.5 or 9) and they actually fit decently.  I maybe would want to go to an 8.5 for a little extra length.  I have narrow feet and they fit my shape well so if you have wider feet they may not fit.  Even though I may have sized up to an 8.5, I fear that only would have caused the ankle strap to be even bigger on me.  This was a disappointment as I had planned on adding these to my closet at some point.  These are a pass for me, but if your ankle is just a bit bigger, they would be super cute on you! =)

See anything you like? I'd love to hear what you're loving at Anthro right now!

Current Love: Gap 1969 Legging Skimmer Jeans

Not all jeans are created equal.  Just like every other girl out there I've tried on a ton of different brands, kinds and price points of jeans.  Although my absolute favorite brand of jeans would have to be AG, I REALLY love Gap jeans too.  Good ole' Gap has been my solid go-to for jeans for many years now.  I love their Always Skinny jeans and when they came out with the Legging Skimmer jeans a few years back I jumped on the bandwagon in a big way.  That being said, not all Legging Skimmer jeans at Gap are created equal either.  Some of the printed skimmers run quite differently in size compared to the solid colored skimmers.  Weird, right?!  I've tried on a pair of printed skimmers that I needed a size 24 (size 00) in and I've tried on some that I needed a 26 (size 2) in.  My usual size at Gap remains a 25 though (size 0) in every solid color jean I have tried.  Just thought I'd warn you of the sizing differences ahead of time!

While I was in Denver this month we stopped in at Gap to check out their latest offerings.  I came upon the newest batch of colors of the Legging Skimmers and totally fell for the new Fire Coral motif:

I tried them on in the size 25 petite length and LOVED them!  The stores don't normally carry petite length so the ones I tried must have been an online return.  I really liked the shorter length on my short legs though!  I already always get the petite length in my Always Skinny jeans but in the future if I purchase anymore Legging Skimmers, I'll be getting the petite length on those now as well.

Needless to say these cute skimmers came home with me and I have lots of ideas on how to style them:

A little neon in my life..

Happy Monday!

Hope you all had a great weekend!  Hubby and I celebrated our anniversary (a week late) by going out to dinner and seeing "The Great Gatsby" on Saturday night.  I really liked the movie even though the reviews weren't so fab.  It was creative and the acting was great.  I'll admit, I never read the book in high school (even though I was suppose to...pretty sure I at least read some of the Cliff Notes) so I can't say whether or not the movie stuck to the story line in the book very well but it was entertaining and well done I thought.  It even kind of makes me want to read the book now!

Onto a little fashion...

Neon colors are here to stay (at least this year) which I'm excited about since I happen to love these bright neon orange ankle length jeans I picked up from Gap Factory last year:

I know neon isn't for everyone but you can always wear as little or as much of it as you want....whatever you feel comfortable with.  I think one of the best ways to introduce neon into your wardrobe in a more subdued way if you're a little hesitant, is through jewelry.  There are tons of great neon pieces out there right now at all different price points that are totally on trend:

Are you into wearing neon?  Or does it take you back to your younger years in a bad way?

Happy Mom's Day!

Just wanted to pop in and say Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there!

I am a lucky girl to have both a fabulous mom as well as a great mother-in-law in my life.  I'm also so grateful to be able to be a mama to my crew...it's the greatest job in the world!  They spoiled me with flowers, cards, pictures and treats today...perfection.

I decided to wear this to church today:

I rarely wear yellow and green together but decided to go for it today.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Favorite new item in my closet...

Spring has brought so many great new arrivals online and every once in a while I come across something I just can't don't want to live without.  The Belted Cattleya Tunic from Anthropologie was one of those items for me.  I'm kind of having a serious obsession with tunics this season and this one had my name written all over it!

And a super cute necklace to go with it never hurts either:

Split Surface Belt-Anthropologie
Elench Dollop Hoops-Anthropologie
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Bracelet-GroopDealz
Sparkling Dome Ring-Forever 21

I wore this outfit on day two of my trip to Denver last weekend...it was a beautiful day out so a cardigan was all I needed to keep warm.  When I first saw this tunic online I fell hard for it.  It's just one of those pieces I HAD to have.  Definitely a new favorite!  I love the color, the print, the length...and honestly I think it will be very versatile as far as being able to mix and match with different colors.  I'm thrilled with it!  I took it in a size 0, and it fit great.  The size 2 was much more billowy and tent-like so I sized down.  I purchased this necklace to wear to my brother's wedding in a few weeks but thought I'd take it out for a spin a little early.  I have to say, I absolutely love it!  It's one of the most fun necklaces I own I think.  The colors are great, the dimension is fab...it's just a great statement piece.  I highly recommend it if you're in the market for a new piece of neck candy!

Have you jumped on the tunic bandwagon this year?  Are you a statement necklace junkie like me?  Spill it!

This week has gotten away from me so I'm now hoping to get my Anthro fitting room reviews up by early next week.  Stay tuned!

Have a great day!

Girl's Weekend Re-cap

Happy Monday!!

I'm back from my weekend getaway and we had a great time!  It was so fun to just relax and have NO schedule to stick to.  We ate some great food, we got massages, we shopped till we dropped (stopped by both Anthropologie stores in the city), we ran one morning, we slept in, we got lost (a few times...lol) and just enjoyed a few stress-free days.  Coming home wasn't too bad though since I came home on mine and my husband's 12th wedding anniversary.  Where does the time go??!  I missed my crew so it was good to get home to all of them.

I snapped pictures of my outfits every day so I'll be sharing those this week...here's what I wore on my way to Denver on Thursday:

Sveta Peasant Blouse-Anthropologie
Oversized Open Cardigan-Shade Clothing
Always Skinny Jeans-Gap
Weave & Plait Belt-Anthropologie
Rodeo Booties-Splendid
Lagniappe Necklace-Anthropologie
Elench Dollop Hoops-Anthropologie
Bracelet-Twisted Silver
Flower Bud Ring-J Crew

Although it wasn't cold at my house, Denver was rather chilly when we arrived so a warm top layer was necessary.  I'm still totally loving the Sveta Peasant Top and highly recommend it!  The colors are so bold and vibrant.

So I mentioned we went shopping...we had great experiences at both Denver Anthropologie stores.  Both had great, friendly, helpful staff and we felt right at home.  We tried on a bunch of things and of course found some goodies to pack in our suitcases to bring home.  I'll try to get some reviews up later this week of some of the highlights.  I was able to cross some things off my wish list, and added a few more things on.  Just as a sneak peek, here's a few items I brought home with me:

Pattern Pop Tee

I fell in love with the colors of this cute top, as well as the fun contrast of prints.  I never quite pulled the trigger on the Split Stripes Pullover (which happens to be on sale as of this morning) because the length was a little questionable on me, sadly, so this will fill the void of not getting that one.  It comes in a few other colors that I would LOVE to grab up as well, including the grey motif that has grey stripes with contrasting a cream and yellow polka dot pattern on the back and pocket.  SO cute!

Braided Twill Trousers

These are the perfect casual pant for the summer...the army green color is super versatile!  It's a nice departure from denim.

Flickerfly Sandals

The backs of these gorgeous sandals are so fun with all the metallic beading.  I found them to run a little small...I took them in a size 40 (Euro sizing).  I'm going to have to punch an extra hole or two into the strap however to accommodate my small ankle...the strap fell too big.  No biggie though!  These will get so much wear this summer!

Stay tuned...actual reviews will be coming soon!

And just in case you missed it, Anthro brought us a decent sized sale this morning...did you check it out?  Some highlights for me were the Neon Pink AG Stevie Ankle Jeans getting a 2nd markdown to $50 from $158, the Mesilla Peasant Blouse (FINALLY...I was able to track down the green motif in-store still even though they're sold out online so call CS for help if you're trying to find it) and the Duo Colorblocked Top.  Of course there were many more great items marked down...too many to mention.  Did you pick anything up?

Off to get my day started...hope you have a great day!
