The Four Summer S's: Shorts, Short Sleeves, Statement necklaces and Sandals

Today I'm talking about the 4 S's in my summer wardrobe...shorts, short sleeves, statement necklace and sandals.  It's all about the letter S today!

So I'm not the biggest fan of shorts.  They aren't the most flattering type of bottoms you can wear (in my opinion). But I wear them a lot in the summer out of necessity.  You know you all do!  Trust me, I'd be wearing skinny jeans all summer long if I could, but in this oppressive heat and humidity I now live in, that just won't work.  Since they aren't my most favorite thing, I at least try to make the rest of my outfit around them cute so maybe I can kind of forget that I'm wearing them at all.  Honestly, I've grown accustom to them now and don't dislike them as much as I used to, thankfully.  They come in all types of price points, prints and colors now which helps spice it up a bit.  The trick is to adding in a few more S's to help each look along...short sleeve shirts, statement necklaces and sandals.   Here's some of my recent summer looks rocking the 4 S's:

1

Shorts-GroopDealz
Lavada Slide Sandals-Target
Golden Totem Bracelet Set-Anthropologie
Large Aqua Stone Stretch Ring-Loft

This is my new favorite black and white striped top...I love it!  Finally, the search is over!  And I can't praise this cute necklace enough...grab it on sale now while it's still in stock!

Top-Shade Clothing (OLD)
Shorts-GroopDealz
Shimmered Seagrove T-Strap Sandals-Anthropologie
Mystic Tieback Bib Necklace-Anthropologie
Double Hoop Earrings-Banana Republic
Ring-Forever 21

I've had this top hanging in my closet for YEARS!  I've avoided it because it looked tired to me all by it's lonesome.  Enter in a fun statement necklace and a bright pair of shorts and all of a sudden this old, tired shirt looks brand new!

Rock Star Bermudas-Old Navy
Lavada Slide Sandals-Target
Tarn Necklace-Anthropologie
Pinspark Cuff-Anthropologie
Sainte Chapelle Earrings-Anthropologie
Linked Circle Ring-Anthropologie

I love a little pattern mixing so this top is perfect.  It takes the mixing work out of the equation...it's already done for me!

Top-Shade Clothing
Shorts-GroopDealz
Steve Madden Marvilis Wedge Sandals-6pm
Ampay Necklace-Anthropologie
Gold Rung Earrings-Anthropologie
Bangles-Gap Factory
Ring-Forever 21

A crisp white top in the summer is perfect, especially when it's paired with a few fun pops of color.

Striped Top-Forever 21 (OLD)
Shorts-Old Navy (OLD)
ALDO "Tossie" Sandals-Nordstrom
Necklace-Francesca's Collections
Factory Enameled Dot Bangle-J Crew Factory
Ring-Forever 21

Apparently I have a thing for stripes this summer.  I can't get enough!  I picked up this shirt a few years back and have recently grown a little tired of it.  However, with the help of a cute new necklace I picked up a few weeks back and a fun pair of mint sandals, I all of a sudden have a whole new look.  Score!

These looks are made up of very simple base pieces but with the addition of a pop of color here or there and a statement necklace, each outfit looks a little more put together.  I am still 100% convinced that jewelry and shoes are two of the smartest places to put your money when investing in a wardrobe.  They are the most cost-effective way to give an outfit a whole new look.  I'm always on the lookout for great deals on both!

Are you sporting the 4 S's this summer?  What are you living in?

Happy Wednesday!

Chambray and Tweed and my favorite item from Anthro's new Archival Collection!

And did you see Anthro just released an Archival Collection?  They've re-released 20 of their classics from the past 20 years..check them all out HERE

I couldn't pass up the chance to give my favorite item of the bunch a look.  Since there's free shipping and I just got some fab price adjustments this week on other items, I thought I'd give this one a try:

This top has great dressing up or dressing down potential!  Crossing my fingers it works because oh my goodness, it's so cute!  Here's how I'm thinking I'll style it first if it works out:

My Anthro sale picks and catching up with a few OOTD's!

Happy Monday!

This morning brought a whole new set of markdowns at Anthropologie...yay!  Here's a few of my favorites:

Bottlegreen Dress
I wore this to my brother's wedding a few months ago and love it!

I have this top in a few colorways...it's perfect to dress up or down.

I couldn't choose which I liked better so I went with both. =)

 Leopard-Spotted Skinny Belt
This is such a versatile belt...love it!

I actually purchased this in the red colorway a few months ago and then returned it because I thought the X-Small was a bit short on my long torso.   I figured I'd wait it out for sale and then grab it in a size Small for that extra inch or so of length.  Hopefully it works!  I really like the fun fabric design!

Did you pick anything up this morning??

Summer Skirt

Happy Tuesday!

Week 2 of July is already upon us.  How'd that happen?  I was walking through Target today and guess what I spotted...the Back to School section starting to be stacked on shelves!  Say it isn't so!  I don't even want to think about it.  I refuse.  We are happily enjoying our summer break and have lots to look forward to still.  In just a few weeks my BFF and her family are coming to stay with us for a few days which promises to be a fun-filled, treat-filled, shopping-filled kind of week...the best kind there is.   If that wasn't enough excitement, the day after they leave I'm headed to Utah for a college roommate reunion!  I can't even stand how excited I am. I cringe to think at how long ago it was that we all lived together but I know the second we all get back together in the same room it will be like old times...back to our crazy selves!  So seriously, school supply section at Target, mind your own business...I'm not ready to see you yet!  There is still lots of fun to be had!

So one of the biggest trends this summer are skirts...maxi skirts to be exact.  Have you jumped on the bandwagon?  If not, you totally should.  You're missing out.  I promise you'll be happy you did.  Why?  Because they're basically like wearing pajamas without looking like you're wearing pajamas.  They're so comfy!  Especially the one I decided upon:

Honey & Lace Black on White Medium Stripe Skirt

My friend recommended this particular skirt to me and I'm loving it!  The company, Honey & Lace, has a lot of cute skirts to choose from, and based on my experience with this one, I'd say you should go give them a shot!  They're super inexpensive and good quality.  They're a decent thickness (I still wear a slip), plenty long, and like I've already mentioned, so comfortable!  The material is also very soft, which I love.  I decided to wear it recently on a day I had tons of running around to do (swim practices, errand running, swim meet) and by the end of the day it had held up great.  No slipping down, no running of threads in the material...just perfect.  Here's how I styled it:

Inspiration for my look came from my friend Stephanie's Polyvore set HERE

Raw-Edge V-Neck Tee-Anthropologie
Black on White Medium Stripe Skirt-Honey & Lace
Lavada Slide Sandals-Target
Candy Cluster Pendant Necklace-Anthropologie
Bracelets-Tiffany
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Elench Dollop Hoops-Anthropologie
Fireworks Ring-Banana Republic

Total throw-back to the 80's with the corner-knotted tee right?  I already went neon...might as well throw in the knot too. =)

Are you a maxi skirt kinda girl??  Wanna be?  Go for it!

Hope you have a great day!!!

Red, Floral and Navy Blue

Happy Fourth of July!!

I've been a bit absentee the past little while, just enjoying summer and some family time.  My parents are here visiting us this week from California so my kids are on cloud nine and enjoying all the fun attention that comes along with a visit from grandma and grandpa.  We'll be in and out all week but I wanted to hop on really quick and say hi!  I'm alive!  Just to prove it I'll even share an outfit I wore to church this past Sunday.  This is a fashion blog, after all.

Original Polyvore Set for this look can be found HERE

Floral Frappe Top-Anthropologie
No. 2 Pencil Skirt in Garden Floral-J Crew
Seychelles "Come Dancing" Peep Toe Pumps-Amazon
Factory Brass-Plated Crystal Necklace- J Crew Factory
Sainte Chapelle Earrings-Anthropologie
Golden Totem Bracelet Set-Anthropologie
Classic Pave Link Bracelet-J Crew
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Geometric Bouquet Ring-J Crew

This is my version of "red, white and blue" this Independence Day.  A few minor adjustments but close enough, right?!?   I love this fun floral print and thought it would be fun to pull out the reds and blues from the print.

Do you have any big fourth of July plans?  BBQ'ing and fireworks are on the agenda for us.  Just hoping the rain will stay far away!

And I couldn't let you go before mentioning Anthro's tag sale...what did you score??  I was glad to finally see an extra percentage off sale items kick in this week and happily got a few price adjustments for myself.  Here's a few of the items I ended up with over the course of the tag sale:

I had already bought these in the lighter denim color and love them so I went for the white too.

I was able to score a PA on this necklace...yay!  I highly recommend it...it's so cute!

I already own this great tee in white so I decided to add a few more colors to my closet.  When you find something you love you buy multiples, am I right? =)

This is yet another multiple being added to my collection.  My best friend gifted me the blue motif of this fab statement necklace last year and I've worn it a ton so I couldn't pass up the chance to grab it in white when it went down in price.  As shocking (or not) as this may sound, I don't own a single white necklace!  I'm all about bright and bold colors usually so this one will be fun (and a challenge) to play around with.

What did you grab??

Stay tuned...I visited my local Anthropoogie last weekend to make some returns and was able to try on some of their latest offerings.  Reviews are coming! I ended up finding some fab items and couldn't help but snatch up a few.  =)

Enjoy your day!
