Five Friday Fab Fall Finds

Just a few fab finds I thought I'd share...

This is a total show stopper piece and since I treat yellow as a neutral it could go with so many things in my closet!

I really have the urge to add something with a leather look to my closet and this might be the perfect way.  I love the edge it gives to this otherwise simple top.

3. Cosette Cardigan

The plum color of this long cardigan is perfection and the detailing is super cute. This one is calling my name!

I really like the low profile of these booties...they would be great with ankle length or rolled denim.

I mean, what isn't there to say about this gorgeous jewel-toned sweater coat?  It's AMAZING!  It's a lust-list item for sure for me.  My birthday IS coming up...someone clue my husband in! =)

Have you tried any of these items?  What do you think?

What do you have your eye on lately?  I'd love to hear!

Have a great Labor Day weekend!!

Wearing: Nora Peplum Top...and check out this CUTE Target find!!!

Happy Thursday!

We've almost made it through week one at school and so far so good!  Of course there's been very little homework and we're already looking forward to a three-day weekend coming up...we get excited about things like that around here. =)  Do you have any big plans for Labor Day weekend?  Hubby and I decided we're gonna throw a good ole' fashion backyard bash on Monday afternoon...we'll be BBQ'ing with friends so we're looking forward to that.  We wanted to have something fun for all the kids to do while they're here so I started googling ideas.  The number one thing people suggested to help keep kids busy at a backyard BBQ was renting a bouncy house so that's what we did.  Should be fun!

Onto a little fashion talk...

Last week before school started we attended the annual "Meet the Teacher" night. I ended up wearing an outfit from my "Back to School: 10 Looks for Mom" post for this event:

Original Polyvore set for this look can be found HERE

Nora Peplum Top-Anthropologie
Legging Skimmer Jeans-Gap
Harachi Cork Wedges-Target
Candy Cluster Necklace-Anthropologie
Bardot Earrings-Stella & Dot
Bracelet-Banana Republic
Aqua Stone Stretch Ring-Loft

I felt perfectly dressed for the event and very comfortable.  It was fun to meet the boy's teachers and run into friends from last year as well.  It got the school year off to a great start!

You may notice the above picture was taken in a Target dressing room (the red gives it away)...that's because I stopped by there earlier that day and ended up trying a few things on.  I just had to share the cutest top I found while I was there!  Let me preface this by saying I used to have a serious issue with any piece of clothing with a bird on it.  Like, I wouldn't even pick it up to consider.  However after having a change of heart about bird prints now (I bought a chair for my family room that had a bird print on it without realizing it was a bird print...whoops) I just seem to be drawn to them!  I still don't love all bird prints, but this cute top just had me at hello:

Isn't that cute?!  Not only is the small bird print adorbs, but the bright blue color of the top alone is fab.  It has an elastic waist band (under the belt that comes with it...cheapie belt, by the way, but it can be changed out) which helps nip in at the waist and gives it a short tunic-ish look.  I LOVED it!  And at $22.99 what's not to love?  For reference I took this in an X-Small.  This cute top came home with me that day.  I also grabbed it in the solid kelly green color it came in.  It had a swiss-dot print (raised dots the same color) on it, which gave it a fun textured look.  These tops are both perfect for fall.  They can be layered with tons of different colored cardis and paired with lots of colored jeans.  I've tried to find them online but I'm not seeing them yet, so check in-stores to see if they're in stock.  They are made by "Mossimo Supply Co." just in case you're wondering.

I'm off to the gym for the second half of my workout.  I've been getting my runs in early before the boys wake up and go to school so now I'm headed to the gym for some weights.  FUN! =)

Have a great day!

What I'm Loving: Free People Ruffle Hem Twill Jacket (Review included)

A few posts ago I shared some fall items I had my eye on and asked you if there were any items you were loving too...I love hearing what new items other people are into.  One reader (hi Melissa!) posted a comment about the Free People Ruffle Hem Twill Jacket she recently found and how much she loved it and how she thought I would too.  Of course I had to take a look!  Let's just say it was love at first sight:

I was just talking to my friend a little bit ago about how I would love to find an army green coat of some sort to incorporate into my wardrobe since I didn't have one.  I really liked the idea of this one because it isn't the typical longer style you mostly see...I loved the cropped fit and the ruffles on the back.  The lacing on the sleeves was a fun idea as well.  Little details like that really go along way in making something extra special I think.

I oooh'd and ahhh'd over the picture of the jacket online for a few days before I decided to order it to see how it fit.  I was mostly concerned with the length, seeing as how many cropped jackets are too cropped on my long torso.  I ordered two sizes, an x-small and small, just to see the difference.  Nordstrom's shipping was super fast as usual and they arrived at my house only two days after I placed the order.  I love ordering through Nordstrom also because of their free shipping both ways.  It's nice to know I could order two sizes and ship one or both back if they didn't work out.  When they arrived I tried them both on and found the x-small to fit best.  The size small was much baggier and when buttoned, gave no defined waist.  When I put the x-small on, however, it was LOVE!

(I just threw it on over what I was wearing and snapped a few pictures in my downstairs bathroom so this hasn't been intentionally styled or anything)

This jacket (in x-small) fit like a glove.  The one place it could have fit better was in the sleeves...they are a touch long, but that didn't bother me.  The jacket is nipped in at the waist when buttoned up, and there's still room to wear a lightweight sweater underneath.  I live in Ohio so I don't plan on being able to wear this in the dead of winter or anything...I only need room for a lightweight something underneath for fall or spring.  I love that this is a fresh take on a mix between a jacket and a blazer.  We'll call it a "jazer" or maybe a "blacket".  It just has a cool vibe to it.  It's definitely a keeper and I can't wait to rock it this fall!

Have you tried this on or seen it yet?  Since hearing about it from a reader I've seen it mentioned on a few other fashion blogs (HERE on "Pinterest Told Me To") so I know it's starting to get noticed.  Piperlime already sold out of it in my size a few days before I planned on using my rewards points towards it...boo!  Luckily Nordstrom still had it in stock in a full range of sizes though....and still does.

Is this something you'd wear?  Is it a stretch?  Tell me what you think!  Thanks so much Melissa for pointing out this great find...you were right!  I loved it!

I'm off to get my hair done today...it really needs it!  I'm definitely getting an inch or so trimmed off and I think I may throw in some caramel highlights for fall...we'll see.

Have a great day!

Some Colorful Looks

Happy first week of school!

We had a successful first day back yesterday and the kids came home with smiles on their faces and nothing but good things to say about their new teachers.  They even made a few new friends!  They also said their new bus driver was nicer than the last one...score! =)  There's nothing better than your kids coming home happy so I was grateful for a good first day back.

Today I have a few "colorful" looks for ya...this first one is all about Primary colors:

Kaleidoscope Pocket Tee-Anthropologie
Legging Skimmer Jeans-Gap
Lemon Stick Wedges-Anthropologie
Sweet Drops Necklace-Anthropologie
Dimpled Hoops-Anthropologie
Classic Pave Link Bracelet-J Crew
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Flower Bud Ring-J Crew

This is one of those easy tops to throw on and either dress up or dress down...and it's super soft, which I LOVE!  There's still limited sizes available HERE for just $29.95!

I sported an even more colorful look over the weekend along with some friends:

A group of us headed down to Cincinnati bright and early Saturday morning to participate in the Color Run which was so much fun!  Here's a few of us at the finish line:

(This one is for you Cassie...lol)

I know what you're thinking...that's hot.  =)

It's fun to let loose a little and break out a tutu once in a blue moon, am I right!?

We all decided it's a must-do again next year, for sure!

Hope you're having a great week so far!

Outerwear Look-a-Likes

While browsing through Ruche's new offerings this past week I found a few coats that are surprisingly similar to ones I have hanging in my closet and thought I'd share in case anyone who missed these wanted a second chance:

...looks a lot like Anthropologie's Pansy Corset Trench:

...looks a lot like Anthropologie's Ruffle Trench (in different material and the ruffle is in a different spot, but still similar!):

...looks a lot like Loft's Corded Dobby Striped Trench:

This one isn't a look-a-like but it's caught my eye in a big way...I'm totally in love with

Yes, please.

Happy Thursday!

Anthropologie Sale Picks and an all-time favorite!

Anthropologie stuck to it's every 2-week sale schedule yesterday morning and dropped its latest round of markdowns...yay!  I'm all about a great sale!  I was able to grab some great deals on some items I can easily wear into fall.

Another item that hit sale that I already own and love is the Spliced Stripes Tee:

Did you grab anything on sale??

Apparently I'm still very into black, white and pink...another round of very neutral picks on my part.  The fun thing about picking up neutrals is that you can add some fun jewelry or a pair of bright colored bottoms and transform the entire look!

Just to prove I'm not all about neutrals all the time, here's a "bright" look I recently wore:

Alstroemeria Tee-Anthropologie
"Clare" cardi-J Crew Factory
Distressed Always Skinny Jeans-Gap
Mossimo "Harachi" Cork Wedge Sandals-Target
Drawing Room Necklace-Anthropologie
Bracelet-Twisted Silver
Marc by Marc Jacobs "Henry Chrono" Watch-Piperlime
Ring-Nordstrom (BP)

This top has to be one of my all-time favorite purchases from Anthropologie.  It's a classic!  It's everything I love about Anthro wrapped into one...beautiful colors, great design, fab quality...perfection.

We're off to take the kids to King's Island today one more time before school starts. Hubby has the day off so it'll be a fun family day for us!

Enjoy your day!

Back to School: 10 Looks for Mom!

We're just a week away from school starting now and I think we're just about ready!  I have a few more school supplies to track down and we're still patiently awaiting the arrival of the kids' backpacks and lunch boxes still (geez Gap, you're taking this 7-9 days shipping window quite literally this time...and we only live like an hour away from the distribution center!) but other than that we're good to go!  As moms we spend so much time getting our kiddos ready to start school but we also have a few events to get ready for ourselves such as meet the teacher nights, open houses, PTO meetings, etc.  I don't know about you but I like to try put my best foot forward when attending these kinds of events.  There's nothing better than feeling put together amongst other moms, am I right?!  So I thought it would be helpful to put together some outfits in Polyvore I feel comfortable and fashion forward in.  Having a bunch of set options ready to draw from in the next few weeks when events come up will be super helpful and a huge time saver!

When attending school events I think it's important to not only dress your best, but appropriately.  I'll never forget the time I went to pick up my son from kindergarten one day and another mom came in her sports bra, shorts and tennis shoes to pick up her child.  That's it!  It was not only uncomfortable for the teacher, but all of the other parents there.  Now I'm going to go ahead and assume none of you are planning to go to Back-to-school night in only your sports bra so we're already on the right track!  Should you dress to the nines to go meet the teacher for the first time either though?  No, not necessarily.  You'll stand out in the opposite way.  I like to find a happy-medium. I think dressing in a dressy-casual manner is most appropriate.  Sometimes people will remember you because of what you wear so try wearing something that's memorable in a good way.  A fun necklace, or a bright colored pair of jeans will stand out among a sea of neutrals.  Also dress age-appropriately.  I know we all want to look as young as possible, but there are lines to be drawn.  Use your best judgement.  If you're not sure, ask a trusted friend.

So without further ado, here are some looks I put together using items I have in my closet (except the pair of shoes in set #2...but dang, they're cute!!) that I would totally wear to any school event coming up:

1.

Nora Peplum Top/ Gap Legging Skimmer Jeans/ Candy Cluster Pendant Necklace

2.

8.

Zelie Maxi Dress/ J Crew cardi/ Lemon Stick Wedges/ Sweet Drops Necklace

10.

Floral Fun
Floral Fun by jennifoundinmycloset featuring petite pants

See any looks you would wear?  Whatever you wear, make sure you're comfortable and feel confident.  That being said, challenge yourself a little too!   If you're not used to wearing much jewelry, throw on a necklace before you leave the house.  If you usually just wear flip flops everywhere you go, try wearing a pair of wedge sandals to dress up your look a bit. If neutrals are taking over your closet, I dare you to buy something with some color next time you're out shopping for clothes.  It's always fun to step outside the box a bit.

Good luck at all your upcoming school events!

For those still on summer break, enjoy these last few days.  Early mornings and homework will be upon us soon enough.

Have a great day!

PS--Just an FYI...I reduced the prices of every single item left on my sale blog last night.  Take a look and see if something catches your eye!

Cute things catching my eye...

As I've been browsing online this past week I've found some cute new items I'd love to add to my closet...my ever-growing wish list continues!  Here's what's been catching my eye as of late:

1.
Boden Montpellier Top

I hadn't been a huge fan of the whole Peter Pan collar look but after trying one out I found on Very Jane (or maybe it was GroopDealz?  Can't remember...) I actually kind of like them!  This top from Boden is adorable and comes in a variety of colors and even some polka dots.  The length is right on the border for me so I think I'll wait for a great deal to give it a try.

2.

I really wanted to get in on the coated denim trend last winter but just couldn't find a pair I really loved.  I'm not sure these will be "the ones" but they have great potential!  And the color...GORGEOUS!  The seam across the lower thigh could be a little worrisome, but you just never know.  I'd love to try these on next time I'm at Gap.

3.
Brinjal Pendant Necklace
(pink motif)

I had never really been drawn to this necklace online and even when it hit sale last week I didn't move on it, but when I saw this cute necklace on Jessica in one of her outfit posts a few days later I knew I had to have it.  It was so cute!  By the time I decided I wanted the necklace, it had sold out online so I called Anthropologie's customer service and was able to locate one through their store search (in case you're still looking for this, one of the store in NYC had over 70 of them last week so I'd imagine they may still have some left).   It arrived a few days ago and I love it.  It's gorgeous, and only cost me $19.95 with free shipping.  Score!  I'd love to wear it with this cute look in the fall:

Ruffled Hem Pullover/ AG Stevie Roll-Up Denim/ Splendid "Rodeo" Booties/ Brinjal Pendant Necklace

4.

Ok, I'm seriously dying over these.  I really want a pair of booties that are this awkward, above the ankle height this year for some reason, and after THESE were an epic fail on me during the Nordstrom anniversary sale (they were HUGE around my chicken ankles), I'm still on the lookout for a great option.   I'm totally smitten over these beauties.  Yes, please! Those scallops had me at hello!  Anthro knows how to stock their shelves with cute winter wear!

And last but not least...although I could go on and on and on....

5.

Speaking of winter wear...I am totally in need of a fabulous black and white print cord coat---said me, the second I saw this online.  Seriously, such a great twist on a classic!  I live in the land of always needing a coat from Oct-April so this may be a great option to add to my closet for the not-so-bone-chilling days in fall.

Like I said, there's so many more things I could have mentioned...this time of year is my absolute favorite for clothes!  So may great layering pieces, boots, coats, etc, etc, etc.  Love it!

What do you have your eye on lately?  Have you started shopping for fall?  Or is it still 99 degrees outside?

Have a great weekend!

PS--Thanks to those who have helped me clean out my closet by purchasing items from my sale blog.  There's still lots of great items left so head on over to check them out if you're interested!

Happy Colors:OOTD

Sometimes I plan out what I'm going to wear and other days I just walk into my closet, hoping I can put something together that looks decent.  This was one of those days...

Fontes Blouse-Anthropologie
Jackie Cardigan-J Crew Factory
Bracelets-Tiffany
Pop Stone Ring-Banana Republic

I've decided yellow, pink and mint were just meant to be.  They are a happy combination.

I'm headed out to the Columbus Zoo today with friends...the boys are so excited!   Here's what I'm planning on wearing for our little outing:

Zoo Day- OOTD

Comfy and casual...that's how I roll at the zoo.

Enjoy your day!

Feeling Girly....and check out my Blog Sale!!!

Happy Monday!

First up, it's blog sale time!  I've cleaned out my closet again and over 35 items listed for sale on my sale blog.  Items listed are from Anthropologie, J Crew, Gap, Banana Republic, The Limited, DownEast Basics and more!  Click here to check it out:

********************

We're at T-minus two weeks until summer vacation is officially over...crazy!   I did a little back-to-school shopping over the weekend for my kiddos since Gap was having some amazing deals both online and in-store.  We also stopped by Gap Factory on Saturday and the whole store was 40% off!  Score!  I got some pretty fantastic deals, I must say. =) We also accomplished getting everyone new backpacks (see which ones my boys chose HERE--my oldest chose the "Skulls" pattern and my 2nd grader chose the "True Black"), lunch bags (see which ones my boys chose HERE--each to match their backpacks), and water bottles (trying out THESE this year) so those can all be checked off the list now too.  Just about ready to start I think!

Since school is right around the corner, I was thinking about the fact that we have a few events coming up that I want to look my best for.  I think it's always good to put your best foot forward when starting off the new year.  There's meet the teacher night at the elementary school, meet the teacher day at preschool for my youngest, first day of school for everyone, first PTO meetings of the year, etc, etc, etc.  Next Monday I'll be putting together a post with some great looks you can wear to any of these types of events. You never want to look like you're the "way too overdone" mommy, but looking a little glam never hurt anyone, right?!  I promise, it doesn't even take much!   Check back next Monday to get some great look ideas for all your back-to-school events!

Onto a little fashion for today...here's an outfit I wore a few weeks ago to church...I'll admit I kinda loved how it turned out:

Original Polyvore set for this look can be found HERE

Dress-Shabby Apple
Factory "Clare" Cardigan-J Crew Factory

Ampay Necklace-Anthropologie
Gold Rung Earrings-Anthropologie

Some outfits just scream "girly" and this was definitely one of them.  I've had this dress for years and still love it so much!  Don't you love it when you find an item that stands the test of time?!!

High/Low'ing it

Remember last year when that new high/low dress trend hit and some people loved it while others couldn't stand it?  Well I jumped on the band wagon and went for it.  I picked this cute maxi up last summer at Nordstrom for a 3-day getaway hubby and I went on after his residency graduation and have worn it many times since.  Here's how I high/low'd it this time:

Felicity & Coco High/Low Dress-Nordstrom (Now on sale in green and coral)
Cardigan-Anthropologie
Shimmer Dust Belt-Anthropologie
Sandals-Anthropologie
Kuychi Necklace-Anthropologie
Pinspark Cuff-Anthropologie
Flower Bud Ring-J Crew

I'd wear different shoes next time I think...these were super flat.

Do you own any high/low dresses?  I figure the trend will be around maybe another season or two and when I'm over it, I can always take the dress to a tailor and chop off the "low" part to make it a knee-length dress.  Win-win!

Stay tuned...I cleaned out my closet last week and have a TON of things to sell!  Check back on Monday when I'll hopefully have it all up on my sale blog to take a look at.

Enjoy your weekend!!

Favorite latest Anthropologie find and some sale scores!

Hi all!  Remember me?  It's been a while!

I'm back and ready to start thinking about blogging more regularly now that summer is almost over.  I'll still be a little sporadic for the next few weeks as we enjoy the remainder of our summer vacation, but once school starts Aug 26th I'll be more consistent.  I have to say, I have some fabulous readers!  I really didn't think anyone would notice much that I took some time off blogging, but I received some very sweet emails from readers that made me smile...asking if I'd be back and hoping I would be.  Thanks so much!  You made my day. =)

So even though I may not have been blogging as much, I've still been keeping my eye on some of the newest releases from my favorite stores.  Since my best friend was here for a week in July, we couldn't pass up the chance to head to Anthropologie and try a bunch of things on.  Of course we found some new "must haves" and even brought home some fun things as well.  We deemed it our "most boring color palette day ever" at Anthro because shockingly we were drawn to all blacks, greys and pinks!  Such a difference from our normal bright and bold color routines.  Sometimes it's ok to step outside the box a little though, right!?!  Keeps life interesting.

I went to Anthro that day with really one thing on my mind...finding the Nora Peplum Top to try on:

If you follow my blog, you know that I have a very long torso.  This proves to be a problem for many styles of tops, including peplum tops.  I have tried countless times to find a great short-sleeved peplum top to fit my long torso and have come up empty handed so many times.  I do own a great 3/4 sleeve fancier lace Peplum top I found at Anthro last year, as well as a peplum jacket from J Crew I grabbed for my trip to Europe earlier this year, but have never been able to find a casual peplum short sleeved top that can just be worn on a daily basis.  Then one day I saw this cute Peplum Top online at Anthro and about died when I saw it was over 26" long!  Could this be the one???

Guess what...it was!!!

Love at first sight!!

I took this cute top in an X-Small and it fits perfectly!  It's so super comfortable as it's almost a sweatshirt material, but doesn't weigh a ton.  It's the perfect length on me and I love the amount of peplum it offers.  Two thumbs up!  I tried the gray version on first (above) not thinking I'd really like the color on me, but turns out I totally did.  It's not a true gray...it's like a heathered black/white mix that looks kind of gray from afar.  It's actually a really pretty color.  Next, I tried on the black motif and liked it just as much as the gray.  So I sat outside my dressing room mulling over which to get for a good 10 minutes while my BFF was finishing up her try-ons.  In the end, I decided to get both.  Why?  Because they were long enough! And when it's an uphill battle to find a peplum top long enough to cover your belly like it has been for me, you buy both.  End of story.  I know both will get tons of wear.

I decided to bring the black version with me on my girl's weekend trip in Utah last weekend...here's how I styled it:

Nora Peplum Top-Anthropologie
Shorts-GroopDealz
Harachi Cork Wedge Sandals-Target
Lagniappe Necklace-Anthropologie
Baroness Bliss Teardrop Earrings-Ruche
Pinspark Cuff-Anthropologie
Golden Totem Bracelet Set-Anthropologie
Geometric Bouquet Ring-J Crew

I like that although it's a casual piece, you can totally dress it up with jewelry.  As always, jewelry is my favorite way to transform a look!

Speaking of Anthro, did you score anything on sale on Monday?  I already owned a few of the great pieces that hit sale (Nubuck Gladiator Wedges and Braided Twill Trousers both get great reviews from me) but I managed to find some pretties to add to my closet:

(Red motif)

I've been waiting for this to hit sale since I tried it on in Denver in May...it's so cute!!!  Just for reference, I took it in an X-Small.

(Red motif)

I tried this on last weekend and really liked it.  The neckline is high enough to cover everything, but is a little on the wide side.  I can make it work though,  I loved the longer length!  I found the X-Small to be the right fit.

(Orange motif)

Apparently I was really on a red/orange kick on Monday!  This cute cardi is perfect for fall...color, weight, sleeve length...perfection!  I also tried this one on in Denver and took it in a size X-Small.  SO happy it finally made it to sale!

(Blue motif)

I had originally passed on this cute necklace but when it hit $19.95 this past week I couldn't pass again!  My BFF wore it while she was here and I loved it on her.  It almost looks like art...so fun!

Did you pick anything up?  Score any great deals??  I'd love to hear!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Have a great day!
